Figheldean Parish includes the village and hamlets of Figheldean, Ablington and Alton and lies on the southern slopes of Salisbury plain some 10 miles north of Salisbury. The parish stretches from the Old Marlborough Drove Road in the east to Robin Hood's Ball in the west and covers an area of xxx. The highest point is Dunch Hill in the south-east of the parish at 161ft above sea level. The Figheldean, Ablington and Alton Downs are littered with the evidence of earlier occupation dating back to neolithic times. Today, large parts of the parish fall within the Military Training Area on Salisbury Plain, with large garrisons at nearby Tidworth, Larkhill, Bulford and Netheravon. The parish council looks after village life and protects the interests of those that live within the area.
